Preserving and Enhancing New York City History

NorthStar was selected as one of the 2 owners representatives for the Engineering News-Record New York Regional Best Project award-winning $50 million Paramount Building Capital Project. The 33-story New York City landmark (as officially designated in 1988) was originally constructed as Paramount Pictures’ headquarters between 1926-1927.

Our team worked on the modernization of the Times Square staple with updated architecture and amenities. Specifically, the Capital Project gave rise to a new tower elevator, cab finishes, 43rd street marquee, windows, AC equipment, corridors, elevator lobbies, and more. The building’s most notable feature – its 4-faced clock featuring stars in places of hours (a direct nod to the company’s logo) remained untouched.

The major accomplishment of this project was the relocation of the entrance from Times Square to West 44th Street while embellishing the historic landmark and bringing it into the interior. The challenge of this unique project was in completing a major update to increase leasing options while keeping the existing tenants in place with minor inconvenience.
